About the Suite
The Self Care Suite has been encouraging women to take off their cape, kick up their feet and take a breath since 2015.
Who Is The Self Care Suite For?
The Self Care Suite is a wellness community for women of color. We provide digital and in-person experiences that allow women a reprieve from the daily grind to design a life that is nourishing and expansive. We do this collectively, as we know that community is life-affirming and life-saving.
Who should join the Suite?
Women who want connection
The average person in the U.S. has only one close friend, according to recent research. One in four people have no confidants at all. This means fewer people to celebrate or commiserate with. Here, we build community so the highs and lows of your life don’t go unacknowledged.
Women who want a break
Between work, school, kids, family obligations, friendships and more, time to self is at a premium. Here, we help you create time for the things that matter most to you. As good sis Lauryn Hill asks, How you gon’ win if you ain’t right within?
Women who need a better way
Often we are following the example set by our elders, which was usually to work and take care of everyone else in your orbit. Rest? What’s that? They meant no harm but we have to unlearn exhaustion as our default. Let’s do this together.
Our Community Offers:
Community Guidelines
Community is a two-way street. We give and we receive. Being a member of the Self Care Suite is about personal growth and development, but also about the wellbeing of your fellow SuiteHearts. With that in mind, we have a few guidelines we ask you to adhere to to ensure the space is honest, constructive and valuable for all:
Centered on Black women’s lived experiences
Since a black woman created this space, and the space remains majority black women, the content and perspective within the group will be produced through that lens. One of our core values is to "buy from a black woman” (Shout out to Nikki Porcher!) so whenever possible, our expenditures go to black women-owned businesses and vendors.
Confidentiality strengthens bonds
In order for the conversations we have at our events and online to be truly productive, we have to agree that we can share our truth without worry that it moves beyond the context of our discussion. We will ask members to leave if they abuse this guideline.
No discrimination
We have a zero-tolerance policy for —isms: racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, etc. If we spot it in our community group (and we haven’t yet!) we will ask you to leave.
Look to assist
Need help with a personal or professional dilemma? Feel free to ask fellow SuiteHearts. Just be sure to embody the ethos of the community and offer up your assistance when you’re able.
Bring us your full self
There are very few spaces where you can fully exist without censoring yourself. We hope the Suite is one of them. Bring us your concerns, your challenges, your successes. Brag on yourself. Vent. We’re here for all of it.
Invite your (good!) friends
The way we grow best is by word of mouth. Members who know other dope women are encouraged to invite them to the Suite. We grow better when we do it together.
What SuiteHearts say:
“It's great to have a space that you can share anything and not be judged or given the side eye. I feel that I can show all the layers of myself here without any concern.”
— Lauren C
“I already know a lot about what you share here but my consistent execution is horrible. However, when there’s a challenge or question in the group it helps me make change in that immediate moment. The more I make little changes, the more chance they turn into big changes.”
— Erika H.
“Mid week check ins have been a GREAT help, to be able to vent and share my feelings and to note any victories I've made that week and what is left to do!”
— Deidre M
Meet Our Founder
I’m Tara, and I like to think of myself as the community’s self-care concierge.
I’m that person who looks at your life + daily responsibilities and gets you to think how you could make it easier, more fun and more fulfilling.
I’m on a mission to help women see that they are whole, worthy humans who deserve a life that doesn’t burn them out.
Take a deep breath, sis. Let’s relax.
