What No One Ever Tells You About Building Your Dream Life

As a black woman, I feel tremendous pressure sometimes to "make it," to be the one who can help lift everyone else up in the family. It is partially what has driven me over the past six years of self-employment, that feeling of if I can just work hard enough, I can free everyone I love.I get frustrated at my progress sometimes.I want to give up.I get jealous.I question whether I'm even working hard enough or spending that energy on the things that really matter.I wonder if I'm making the right sacrifices.I wonder. All this boils down to the fact that no one has this down to a science. You may see people online boasting about their wins, about their carefree life that is arranged just the way they want it.But they're lying. We all struggle at times. We all second-guess ourselves and try to figure out if where we're headed is where we really want to go.This "dream life" we all seek is a never-ending journey. There is not some official announcement that goes off like our GPS that tells us "we've arrived to our destination." It doesn't work like that.Instead, it's about trusting your gut. Honoring your work ethic. Regrouping after taking a risk. Patting yourself on the back, Surrounding yourself with homies who get it.And then showing up. Every day.Are you going to show up for yourself? I know I will.
