Tara Pringle Jefferson
Tara Pringle Jefferson is a writer, speaker, and self-care coach. As founder of the Self Care Suite, she created a space where women like you can knit strong connections, unlearn exhaustion as habit and develop self-care rituals that can sustain us.
Tara firmly believes we can improve mental health outcomes through our community building work, focused around the lens of self-care.
The signature event of the Suite is Here We Grow, an annual self-care retreat developed as an affordable and accessible wellness weekend for black women. Tara hosted the first retreat in 2015.
For three years she curated the Bloom Beautifully Box, a bimonthly self-care package that featured products from artisans of color.
Tara’s platform for self-care includes developing workshops and presenting at conferences, retreats and community gatherings to give concrete, real-world advice on decreasing stress and building mental health reserves.
She runs a private peer support group now nearly 1,000 members strong. In the group, she challenges women to not only take inventory of their lives, but to make long-lasting, sustainable changes, with the support of the larger community behind them.
She has been featured in or on Essence and Kiplinger magazines, The Grio, Babble, Buzzfeed, The Happy Black Woman podcast, and Sirius XM radio. In 2016, she was recognized by Kent State University as a distinguished alumna for her work in the community with young mothers and women. In 2018 she won the Lady of Legacy award from the nonprofit Limitless Ambition for her work in wellness and community building.
When she’s not working, she’s making runs to Trader Joe’s and trying to perfect her recipe for the perfect pound cake. Born and raised in the Midwest, she lives in Ohio with her husband and children.
